Just over a year ago, a woman strangled her baby and stored it in a freezer like a packet of meat.

And now the Daily Voice can reveal she will only spend six years behind bars for her crime.

Buzelwa Gini, who was 25 years old at the time of the murder, was exposed as a cruel killer in December 2010.

The woman callously put her own murdered child in a bag, wrapped it up tight and pretended it was a parcel of meat.

She then asked an unsuspecting youngster to give the “packet of meat” to her boyfriend.

The West Side informal settlement, near Villiersdorp, was shocked when they learnt Gini was arrested for the murder.

Nobody, including her family, even knew the young woman was expecting a baby.

Gini allegedly gave birth to a boy in toilets opposite the house she shared with her aunty a night before the horrific murder.

She is believed to have stored the baby in the freezer until the next day when she allegedly asked someone to take the little corpse, wrapped in a plastic bag, to the baby’s father.

Villiersdorp deputy officer Sylvester de Long earlier told the Daily Voice: “She allegedly gave the parcel to the father’s brother and told him to take the “packet of meat” to the baby’s father.”

But the kid who had to deliver the parcel could not find the man, known only as “Shoos”, and then gave it to friends.

People started becoming curious and when they looked inside the bag, they made the horrific find.

The aunt and uncle were not at home at the time of the murder and upon their return, they learnt of their niece’s arrest.

Her uncle Mkuseli Sonka, 40, said shortly after the incident: “Nobody knew she was pregnant and it was a big shock when the police came to arrest her.”

He added that the young ma found out she had psychological problems last year.

“We think she killed the baby because she was maybe possessed,” says the uncle.

Gini was sentenced in the Caledon Regional Court last week to 12 years in prison of which six are suspended for five years.

Mkuseli says the family is heartbroken about the sentence and feel it would have been better if Gini got a suspended sentence.

“I haven’t spoken to her myself but they say a man told her to kill the child, then he will give her money for the child,” he adds.

“But now she is in jail alone.”
