North West - The trial of a mother who killed her five children was postponed in the Vryburg Circuit Court, her lawyers said on Monday.
“Sentencing was postponed as we await the pre-sentence report. The case will resume again on Tuesday,” said Legal Aid Board spokeswoman Thotoane Shale.
Judge Ronald Hendricks found Vinolia Siwa guilty on all five counts of murder on September 4.
In a statement read by her defence counsel Nzame Skibi, the mother of six confirmed that she stabbed four of her children and drowned her youngest child in October 2011.
“I took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the four children. I stabbed them in the neck, and drowned the youngest.”
She asked the court to consider her five-month-old baby girl, who was born in prison.
“She needs me to be part of her life.”
The murders took place at Siwa's house in the Lower Majeakgoro Village at Pampierstad. - Sapa
