Johannesburg – A man accused of murdering a police officer who was on duty will remain in custody, the Kimberley Magistrate's Court has ruled.

Police spokesperson, Captain Philani Nkwalase, said 28-year-old Mzwandile Majosi appeared appeared in court on Thursday in connection with the murder of Constable Lentswe Edward Majosi, whose body was found in the veld near Lerato Park on Sunday.

He had sustained multiple stab wounds to his face and body. The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) was brought into and preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Majosi and the recovery of personal items which belonged to the slain officer.

Nkwalase said the Hawks were investigating the motive for the killing. Majosi's case was postponed to January 26 for bail application and further investigation.
