Durban - Bruce Galloway, the Kloof man who went missing last Tuesday and was found in the nearby gorge two days later is expected to undergo surgery on Monday for injuries he sustained during his abduction.

His son, Wayne, said on Sunday night that Galloway was still in the intensive care unit at Hillcrest Hospital, but he was optimistic that his father was improving.

The 59-year-old businessman disappeared before dawn, as he was preparing to drive to the Eastern Cape on business. After a search by police and private security companies he was found, injured, at the bottom of Kloof Gorge by two youths who heard him calling for help.

According to reports, his family thought he’d interrupted a house robbery and was abducted by thieves who threw him down the gorge. When he was found he was dehydrated, which affected his kidneys, and had suffered broken vertebrae and ribs as well as a punctured lung.

“He is responding well to treatment and his kidneys are almost back to normal,” Wayne said.

The family had not had a chance to question Galloway.

“The visiting hours are restricted but the time we have spent with him has been very special,” he said.

Police were waiting for Galloway’s condition to improve before taking a statement from him, Wayne said.
