Pretoria - A South African National Parks (SANParks) ranger died on Thursday after being accidentally shot by a colleague while on patrol in the Kruger National Park.
The two were on an anti-poaching patrol in the Malelane area, when they were charged by a lone buffalo bull.
According to SANParks, in the confusion which followed they found cover and tried to neutralise the bull. But, the ranger was caught in the crossfire A chopper was brought in and he was flown to the Nelspruit Medi-Clinic where he died of his injuries.
The name of the dead ranger could not be released on Thursday as his next of kin were yet to be informed.
His colleague is receiving trauma counselling.
