Johannesburg - The extradition case against jailed Czech fugitive Rodovan Krejcir was postponed on Monday in the Kempton Magistrate's Court.

The convicted criminal, who reportedly tried to break out of jail, was brought to court amid tight security.

Krejcir had handcuffs and was chained with leg irons. He also had a tracking device strapped around his waist.

Inside the court there were heavily armed policemen.

Krejcir is serving a 35-year sentence for attempted murder, drug dealing and kidnapping.

Krejcir complained to the court about the treatment he said he was receiving at Kgosi Mamporo Correctional Services facility in Pretoria.

State prosecutor Johan Du Toit said he would discuss Krejcir's complaint with the Head of the Kgosi Mamporo.

The Czech fugitive, who was sentenced in absentia in 2012 to eight years for fraud in his home country, said he wants to moved to the Johannesburg Prison.

On Monday Krejcir told the court that documents he had with him were taken away by authorities. He said they told him that the documents would be given to his legal representative, Frank Cohen, but that never happened.

Advocate Cohen told he court that his client, Krejcir, had seen a psychiatrist. He was prescribed medication that made him feel drowsy, nausea, suicidal and gave him nightmares.

The lawyer said Krejcir had not been assisted to deal with the symptoms.

"He hasn't been permitted to call me," Cohen told the court.

Apart from the extradition matter, prosecutor lawrence Gcaba said the case of Krejcir's alleged escape attempt could not proceed because not all legal councils were present to agree on a trial date.

Both cases were postponed to 24 January 2017.
