Johannesburg - The case against a man who allegedly serves as a hitman for Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir was postponed in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Gauteng police said.

Sakhile Victor Bhengu, 40, was charged with conspiracy to murder. Police said he was part of an elaborate plot to kill several witnesses that were to testify in the Sam Issa murder case. He was arrested on Thursday by a special task team trying to close the net around Krejcir and his associates.

Issa, a Lebanese national, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Bedfordview in 2013. He was shot while waiting at a red traffic light. A white Ford Ranger stopped next to him and the suspects opened fire.

Krecjir, Siboniso Miya, Nkanyiso Mafunda and Simphiwe Memela were arrested in connection with the killing of Issa. They were already in custody in connection with conspiring to murder police colonel Nkosana Ximba and security expert Paul O’Sullivan.

“These four accused are due to appear in the Germiston Regional Court on 30 June in connection with the Issa murder,” police said.

Krecjir and other co-accused are also on trial in other courts for charges including kidnapping, murder, attempted murder and drug dealing.

Bhengu is expected back in court on July 27 for a bail application.
