Durban - Two suspected drug dealers were arrested during a raid at an apartment in Sydenham, Durban, KwaZulu Natal police said on Saturday.

“It is alleged that members were doing their crime prevention duties when they followed up information that led them to a flat,” police said in a statement.

“They asked permission to search the place and they recovered a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of live ammunition. Members also recovered 655 ecstasy tablets, ten mandrax tablets, sixty eight whoonga straws, twenty nine units of crack cocaine and four grams of cocaine.”

The two were arrested on Friday. The estimated street value of the drugs is R46 320.

“The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used to the commission of any crime in the country,” police said.

The suspects, aged 19 and 28, were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
