KZN premier's driver arrested

Premier Zweli Mkhize's driver was arrested for allegedly speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol on the N2 near Mtunzini, the Natal Witness reported on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper's sources his blood level was measured at 0.84 which was several times over the legal limit of 0.05 per 100ml.

He was trapped travelling at 183km/h on a road which has a speed limit of 120km/h on Tuesday night.

Road Traffic Inspectorate Zinhle Mngomezulu confirmed the man arrested was the premier's driver.

Premier's spokesman Ndabezinhle Sibiya said Mkhize was not in the vehicle at the time.

It was not clear whether the man was driving a state or private vehicle. -Sapa
