Durban - Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a school principal in KwaZulu-Natal's Ugu District, provincial police said on Monday.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the three would appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Nkosinathi Zondi, 46, the principal of Nyon'eMhlophe Primary, was shot five times at his home in Umlazi last May. Zondi was also regional chairman of the SA Democratic Teachers' Union in the lower South Coast region.

One of those arrested is a school principal and the other a senior official in the KwaZulu-Natal education department. They cannot be named until they have appeared in court.
