Pietermaritzburg - A man has been sentenced to life in prison by the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court for raping a teenage girl, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

Sandile Ze Makhaye, 29, was sentenced on Wednesday for raping an 18-year-old girl, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Makhaye raped the teenager nine years ago in a bush near her home in Plessislaer, Pietermaritzburg.

He forcefully entered the teenager's home and dragged her to the bushes where he raped her.

She reported the matter to police at Plessislaer Police Station.

Makhaye was arrested on April 19, 2006. - Sapa
