Durban – Two serial rapists who terrorised women over a period of five months, have been sentenced to twelve life terms behind bars, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

The Pietermaritzburg High Court convicted and sentenced Nkosinathi Ngcobo, 23, and Sifiso Buthelezi, 19, on twelve counts of rape and robbery, on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala said the crimes were committed in 2013 in the Luvisi area of Nquthu.

Gwala said the victims were aged between 16 and 37 years old.

He said the two men would threaten the women with knives, rob them and then rape them.

Twelve women came forward to open cases of rape and robbery at the Nquthu police station.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “The sentences that have been meted out to the accused befits the crime they had committed and we hope it will bring closure to the victims.”
