Durban - A woman was shot dead during a hijacking outside her home in Cleland, near Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said on Thursday.

The 51-year-old woman was shot as she was driving into her residential complex on Wednesday night, ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said.

“After the perpetrators apparently shot her, they took her vehicle and left her lying in the driveway,” Majija said.

Her neighbours found her and tried to resuscitate her.

“Paramedics took over from the bystanders and performed advanced life support on the patient who, after 45 minutes, succumbed to her abdominal injury,” Majija said.

Police were investigating.
