Polokwane - A lawyer who allegedly defrauded a divorcing couple of thousands of rands after selling their house was arrested in Polokwane on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.

The 35-year-old from the Lenyeye area was arrested at his law firm in Tzaneen and would appear in the Commercial Crime Court on Thursday, said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

“In 2010, he was handling a case in which a couple was divorcing. The court ruled that the couple's house must be sold, and the couple was to share the money equally,” said Mulaudzi.

The lawyer was mandated to sell the house, which he did.

However, after selling the Nkowankowa house for R390 000, the prominent lawyer allegedly pocketed the cash and the couple was left stranded.

He will face charges of fraud. - Sapa
