A 20-year-old man accused of raping and murdering teenager Lekita Moore will remain behind bars until his trial starts, after his bail was denied.

The Daily Voice can reveal that murder accused Cameron Wilson was also arrested last year for the brutal rape and murder of another girl.

Wilson was out on bail for the murder of 16-year-old Stacey Lee Mohale when he allegedly attacked Lekita in Valhalla Park in September this year.

Stacey Lee was killed in March 2015.

It’s alleged that Wilson and a 13-year-old boy attacked Stacey Lee and a 17-year-old friend while they visited someone in Heinz Park, where he lives.

Stacey Lee was raped, while her friend was stabbed and assaulted.

Wilson allegedly threw stones at both their heads, placed tyres on them and set them alight.

The friend told the Daily Voice she managed to remove the tyres and played dead, which saved her life.

Pre-trial hearings for Wilson kicked off in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday, where it was revealed that the outcome of his bail application had been decided last week.

The matter has been set down for December 13, but was brought forward at the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court last Thursday at the request of his former attorney, Nico Janse van Rensburg.

On Thursday, Cape High Court prosecutor Carine Teunissen confirmed that Wilson’s bail application was denied.

He faces 15 charges in total, dating back to 2013, including rape, murder and assault.

He allegedly abducted and killed Lekita after they both attended a karaoke in Valhalla Park on September 10.

Her naked and mutilated body was found on a field in Tuna Street the next morning.

Her face was slashed, she had been stabbed 98 times, and her nipples and part of her vagina had been cut away.

Dozens of family and friends came to court yesterday to attend the hearing.

Wilson quietly chatted to his lawyer, Mohamed Sibda, as the gallery filled up with about 50 Valhalla Park residents, including Lekita’s father Charles, 53 and sister Mercia, 21.

The dad says his wife Shireen has been institutionalised to help her deal with Lekita’s death.

Judge Robert Henney said the trial date was set for February 13, adding, “Mr Wilson, you remain in custody”, to an explosion applause from the gallery.

Judge Henney was shocked by the cheers, and Teunissen had to explain they were concerned community members who were “a little over-excited”.

Outside court, Charles said they were relieved that Wilson’s bail had been denied.

“He took something from me. He destroyed my family and he can never pay enough for what he has done,” the dad says.

“He is an animal, who deserves to be caged for life.”
