Johannesburg - A man allegedly implicated in illegally selling houses in Lenasia has resigned from his post at the City of Johannesburg, a Gauteng official said on Thursday.
Sifiso Handsome Litau, who is facing criminal charges in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court, tendered his resignation during an internal disciplinary hearing, local government and housing spokesman Motsamai Motlhaolwa said.
“His resignation letter was accepted and signed by the presiding officer at the disciplinary hearing.”
Litau is out on bail and is due back in court on October 3.
“He is one of the seven suspects who are appearing in different courts for [allegedly] illegally selling state land, ranging between R15 000 to R500 000,” Motlhaolwa said.
Local government and housing MEC Ntombi Mekgwe welcomed the resignation.
“We can’t have people like him in the public service, he must face the full might of the law and we will wait for the outcome of the case at the court,” Mekgwe said.
