Free State - Two men who murdered a policeman in Qwaqwa have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Harrismith Circuit Court, police said on Thursday.

Sergeant Mmako Mophireng said Teko Mphuti, 26, of Mokgotlong in Lesotho and Malefetsane Nhlapo, 36, of Makeneng Village in Qwaqwa, were sentenced on Thursday for murdering student Constable Pule Rasebakoa.

Judge Connie Mocumie sentenced Mphuti to an additional eight years, and Nhlapo to five more years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Mphuti was also sentenced for being an illegal immigrant at the time of his arrest.

The sentences would run concurrently.

Rasebakoa went missing on March 8. His body was found on June 29 under a heap of stones in the Drakensberg mountains, near Phuthaditjhaba.

Mophireng said Nhlapo had been a police informer about stock theft-related crimes. - Sapa
