Port Elizabeth - An Eastern Cape man was jailed for life by the High Court in Tabankulu on Friday for killing a teacher during a robbery, police said.

Abongile Tywaku, 28, was convicted of murder, armed robbery, and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, said Captain Mlungisi Matadane.

On October 24, 2010, Tywaku and six other men entered a community meeting in Chibini where money was being counted, and demanded the money - approximately R80 000.

A woman who was a teacher in the area was shot and killed during the robbery, said Matadane.

Tywaku and a second man, expected to appear in the same court next week, were later arrested. - Sapa
