The Capricorn district municipality in Limpopo has acted against a senior official accused of misconduct, spokesman Moffat Senyatsi said on Tuesday.

He said the district's chief financial officer Templeton Phogole had been given seven days to make a written representation to council on why he should not be suspended.

“We are awaiting a response and he will appear before a disciplinary hearing before we make a decision on whether to suspend him or not.”

An acting CFO had not yet been announced.

Phogole is accused of financial misconduct, insubordination, and gross dereliction of duty.

According to the Sowetan newspaper, Phogole allegedly appointed a service provider despite an inadequate budget.

He apparently made payments of about R600 000 to the provider without a signed contract.

He is further accused of misleading municipal manager Ngoako Molokomme into signing invoices and ratifying transactions amounting to more than R44 million.

Senyatsi declined to comment at this stage. – Sapa
