Limpopo - The head of traffic in Limpopo was released on bail on Wednesday after he was arrested on a total of 1640 fraud-related charges, provincial police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said 48-year-old Thilivhali Elphus Mulaudzi, head of traffic at the Thulamela Municipality in Polokwane, appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

He faced 820 fraud charges and a further 820 charges of contravening National Road Traffic Act 93. He was expected back in court on August 22.

“Mulaudzi's bail conditions includes not to intervene with any witness, he must hand over his passport and he is not allowed to leave the Vhembe district without informing the investigating officer,” Brigadier Mulaudzi said.

He said Thilivhali Mulaudzi was the section head of the municipality's testing station in 1998 when the Department of Roads and Transport ordered the station to be closed, after investigations revealed several malpractices which amounted to unlawful acts. - Sapa
