Pretoria - A man has been sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for robbing a Pretoria restaurant, police said on Friday.
“Johannes Moyo, 37, from Yeoville, was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment by the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on October 25,” said Captain Colette Weilbach.
On November 5, 2012, Moyo and an accomplice robbed the Brewers Fish and Grill shop in Pretoria Moot. They ran away with cash and a cellphone.
The owner of the shop gave chase in his car. Moyo was said to have fired a shot at the owner while running away.
“In the process, he ran in front of another vehicle and was run over.”
He was arrested and the gun was sent for ballistics tests, which revealed that it had was used in a business robbery in Douglasdale in October 2012.
“(He) was also previously convicted for a bank robbery that was committed in Johannesburg,” Weilbach said.
“This sentence serves as a warning to repeat offenders that they may run but they can't hide forever as their luck will run out and justice will prevail at the end,” she said.
