Johannesburg - A suspected love triangle argument left a man dead in Soweto at the weekend.
It is believed a 28-year-old man shot a 26-year-old man once in the upper body after he apparently found him with his girlfriend.
Police said the victim died at the scene in Zola 3 on Saturday night.
It was not clear whose house it was where the incident took place.
Police said they were called after the shooting.
“It looks like the deceased was seeing the suspect’s girlfriend or the two have dated before. An argument had apparently ensued between the two men when the suspect found his girlfriend in the deceased’s company,” said police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
“Police were informed on arrival at the scene that the suspect had left in his car. After getting the car’s description the police hit the streets and later cornered the suspect’s car in Eldorado Park.”
Makhubela said the suspect was arrested and a firearm suspected to have been used in the fatal shootingconfiscated. He said the suspect was charged with murder, adding that his firearm was also being verified to determine whether it was legal or not.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court today.
Sapa reports that a total of 168 people were arrested across Soweto for various crimes during the weekend.
They were charged for crimes ranging from murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, illegal sale of alcohol to drunk driving and possession of stolen motor vehicles.
“This was part of a weekend operation that started on Friday and ended today (Sunday),” said Makhubela.
The suspects are expected to appear at various courts today.
