Johannesburg - A lovers’ quarrel has allegedly led to a woman fatally striking her boyfriend in the heart with a knife, killing him instantly.
Police spokesman Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the 26-year-old man was confirmed dead on Thursday at a Hillbrow, Joburg, flat the couple shared.
The woman was arrested for the murder.
Zondo said the couple, who lived together with their two-year-old daughter at the Sentinel Flats, were apparently arguing over the man’s former girlfriend. The heated exchange then reached boiling point and the woman pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed her lover.
The woman ran to the Hillbrow Police Station to get help. “She thought her boyfriend was still alive but once we got to the flat, the man was already dead,”Zondo said.
The couple’s child is being cared for by relatives.
The woman is expected to appear in the Joburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
There have been recent similar cases of enraged women turning the knife on their lovers after arguments over former relationships.
A prominent case involves Skwatta Kamp rapper Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi, who was stabbed to death in the chest by his girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele during an argument at his Alexandra home in March last year.
Witnesses said they heard the couple arguing over other women.
Manqele was convicted of his murder in December last year and sentencing will begin on March 9.
