Johannesburg - The prosecution in the case of a man accused of killing a Westbury boy has painted him as a trigger-happy person who is either shooting people or threatening to do so.
Lindray Khakhu faces 18 charges related to gun violence, two of murder, four of attempted murder, one of pointing a firearm and 11 of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A provisional indictment presented in court on Tuesday appeared to indicate the bullet that ended Luke Tibbets’s life was one of more than 20 shots he allegedly fired that night.
On Tuesday, Khakhu appeared in the Newlands Magistrate’s Court, where he was officially charged with the premeditated murder of Luke, who died on Friday after almost a week on life support.
Luke was in a car with his mother and other occupants when he was hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by Khakhu.
The 23-year-old was nabbed in church the morning after the shooting and was charged with attempted murder.
The provisional indictment appears to indicate that Khakhu’s brushes with the law started in January 2013, when he walked past a house in Westbury and saw Andre Mooi and Ronald Platjies standing in front of it.
Mooi allegedly asked him what he was looking at and moved towards him. Khakhu allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the two, then fled.
Four months later, Khakhu was attending a party in which Dean Smith was a DJ.
At the party, a shot went off accidentally from a gun Khakhu was allegedly seen wielding and hit Smith in the back.
Twelve days after the shooting, he was with his friend Keegan Prince at a place called the G-Spot. Alton Mooi got into an argument with them, according to the indictment.
During the row, Khakhu and two friends got into the car and left. Alton and his friend Shane Williams allegedly followed them.
Alton and Williams’s car collided with the one Khakhu and his friends were in. Khakhu then shot the two men. Williams hobbled away after being shot in the leg, while Alton died.
On June 13, the accused threatened to shoot Oscar Lawrence.
The matter will be back in court on August 29.
