Four gunmen robbed a luxury watch store in Somerset Mall in Somerset West on Friday, the latest in a spate of robberies targeting shopping centres in the province.
The four men stormed the Time Watch Specialists shortly after 9.30am.
On Friday police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said the four gunmen got into the store and threatened staff.
“They then fled the scene with expensive watches,” she said.
It was not yet clear how much the watches were worth.
Rwexana said a business robbery case was being investigated.
Somerset Mall marketing manager Retha Muller said no one was injured during the incident.
An employee told Weekend Argus on Friday that she and her colleagues were fine.
She described the robbery as “a small incident”, and directed further questions to the mall’s management.
Earlier this month robbers held shoppers and staff at gunpoint in Hassen’s Superette, a Rondebosch East shop.
They then hijacked a customer’s car and made their escape.
The incident took just six minutes.
It was the third in less than three months in which a shopper’s vehicle was hijacked by fleeing robbers.
