Johannesburg - The murder trial of musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala is expected to continue in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

During cross-examination on Monday, Maarohanye was accused of contradicting himself in his testimony on the 2010 accident in which four schoolboys were killed.

Prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa referred Maarohanye to a statement he made in which he said he had never seen people taking drugs, except on television.

Maarohanye told the court on Monday he had seen some people take drugs in the entertainment industry, and described the various ways in which some of these drugs could be taken.

Mathenjwa asked him if the drugs found in his urine sample were the result of secondary smoking or tampering.

“It could be one of the two,” Maarohanye said.

Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Their cars ploughed into a group of schoolchildren, killing four and seriously hurting two others, while allegedly drag-racing on Mdlalose Street in Soweto on March 8, 2010.

Maarohanye disputed witnesses testimonies that he was driving on the wrong side of the road shortly before Tshabalala allegedly crashed into his car, causing the accident.

He maintains he blacked out during the crash and could not remember if he was pulled out of his car through a window or the sunroof. - Sapa
