Johannesburg - Malibongwe Drive and the N14 highway, north-west of Johannesburg, have been re-opened following protests on Monday, Johannesburg metro police said.
But the R114 near Cosmo City, which intersects Malibongwe drive, had to be closed on Monday as another protest broke out.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said protesters had blocked the road with burning tyres.
The R114 was reopened again around 8am after the group of protesters moved to a soccer field in Diepsloot where they were expected to meet with a representative from the city of Johannesburg.
“Both the N14 and Malibongwe drive have been re-opened for traffic… You cannot say the protesters have dispersed but it is quiet,” said Minnaar.
Traffic was disrupted when a group of people protested on Malibongwe drive near Cosmo City and the other group on the N14 near Diepsloot around 5am.
“The cause of these protests is not known at this stage,” said Minnaar.
He said metro police officers had been deployed to monitor the protests. - Sapa
