Pietermaritzburg - There were emotional scenes outside court on Tuesday, when a man accused of raping his seven-year-old stepson embraced the boy.
The child was seen running to his stepdad, hugging him and kissing him on the cheek, before he ran back to sit with his grandfather. The stepdad then promptly burst into tears.
Earlier, the little boy sat across the hall from his stepdad, with his mother and grandfather, as they waited to be called into the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court.
After an entire day of discussions between the defence and the State, the case was adjourned to September 16, to allow the man to make representations to the State prosecutor in relation to the offence.
The 32-year-old accused from Clarendon, out on bail of R3 000, is not allowed contact with his wife or stepson as part of his bail conditions.
The man was arrested in April this year after his wife, a teacher, returned home early from a meeting and caught him allegedly performing oral sex on her son in a bedroom.
