Grahamstown -

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.

The 38-year-old man apparently asked his wife for matches on Sunday and when she did not give them to him an argument ensued, said Captain Mali Govender.

“He then took out a knife and stabbed her in her upper body and fled. She died at the scene,” she said.

The couple's five children, aged between two and 13, were taken in by a relative.

“Trauma counselling has been arranged for them.”

The man was due to appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder. - Sapa
