North West - A man was arrested after a shoot-out with police in Marikana, North West police said on Saturday.

The 24-year-old was part of a group of five men who robbed a local shop of an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone at gun-point on Friday morning, said Captain Adéle Myburgh.

“Shortly after the incident, police members arrived at the scene and followed-up on information,” she said.

A manhunt was launched and police managed to identify one of the men based on video footage they saw at the shop.

A shoot-out ensued when police approached the man. He was with the other alleged robbers.

Myburgh said police chased the man, who began opening fire on them. He was eventually arrested in an open field.

The other men fled in different directions and were still at large.

The man will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday to face charges related to business robbery and possession of unlicensed fire-arm.
