Eastern Cape - A man was arrested for theft on Friday after taking money from the till in the Grahamstown Spur, Eastern Cape police said.

The 39-year-old man allegedly fell asleep in the restaurant and was locked in, Captain Mali Govender said.

“He awoke in the early hours of this morning and the alarm had been activated, however when local security officers checked out the place, they found nothing amiss and continued with their routine tasks.”

She said the man helped himself to some money from the register and tried to get out of the building. He was seen by a neighbouring businessman, who alerted management.

He was apprehended and detained.

The man would appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate's Court on Monday, Govender said. - Sapa
