Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Midrand on Thursday evening for allegedly taking part in two armed hijackings and being in possession of two stolen cars, Johannesburg metro police said.

“Officers of the JMPD Midrand high speed unit have arrested a male suspect in his late 20s who was also in possession of a firearm after observing a silver Mercedes Benz and a white Getz driving recklessly on the K101 to Midrand,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“Four suspects managed to escape. It was then discovered that the Mercedez Benz was hijacked earlier today (Thursday) in Centurion as well as the Getz, which was hijacked in Kempton Park last year.”

The man was expected to appear in court soon.
