King Williams Town - A suspect was arrested for stock theft in Stutterheim on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said.

The police said they followed up information about cattle that was kept in a veld between the Qeqeqe and Kubusie locations in Stutterheim, and a thorough investigation led the police to the discovery of the stolen cattle and arrest of the suspect, 30.

“The arrest comes after four cattle were stolen in Thembeni village outside King William’s Town during March 2015 and a case was opened for investigation,” King William’s Town Cluster Commander Brigadier Henry Vos said.

Meanwhile, another case was opened for investigation at the Balasi location, in Bhisho after eight cattle were stolen by the end of February 2015 and eleven cattle to the value of R92 000.00 were recovered last night and one cow had already been slaughtered and sold by the suspects.

When the police arrived on the scene the other suspect fled on foot. An investigation was continuing and more arrests were eminent.

The arrested suspect will be appearing in the Stutterheim Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 7 April 2015, on charges of stock theft.

“All stock owners and farmers are encouraged to count their stock regularly and report stolen or missing stock to the police as soon as they become aware,” Vos said.
