Durban - A Nigerian man was pulled through the smashed window of his car, hit over the head with a pistol and robbed of $6 000 (R63 000) in cash as he was arriving home on Monday.

A police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said a car was driven up behind the 26-year-old man as he was entering the driveway to his flat in Baton Road, Morningside. The car was used to jam the gate so it could not close.

Three men with guns jumped out of the car.

“The man remained seated in the car,” Zwane said. “He closed the windows and locked the doors. The men smashed the driver’s side window and pulled him out. They assaulted him and demanded money.”

The men hit him on the back of his head with a gun.

They took R410 in cash from his pocket and a bag containing the dollars.

Paramedics treated the man for a head wound at the scene.

The police are still trying to establish what car the robbers used. A case of armed robbery has been opened at the Mayville SAPS.
