Durban - A 76-year-old man appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday charged with the sexual assault of his two granddaughters.
The man, from Warner Beach, south of Durban, was remanded in custody until September 30, when he will make a formal bail application.
According to the charge sheet, the man touched the private parts of his two young grandchildren, aged 11 and nine years old respectively, between August 4 and September 14, when he visited the family at their home in Pietermaritzburg.
Police indicated that following the most recent incident, the girls had reported what happened to their father (the man’s son), who alerted the police.
The grandfather was then arrested.
