Pietermaritzburg - A man implicated his brother in the death of an Ethiopian salesman who was dragged behind a car, while testifying in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday.

Siyabonga Mtshali, 24, who was jailed for 25 years on Tuesday, told the court his brother Cyprian helped overpower Thomas Emarat Ebamo.

Cyprian Mtshali pleaded not guilty before Deputy Judge President Achmat Jappie on Friday.

Convicting Siyabonga Mtshali on Tuesday, Acting Judge Igna

Stretch found that the murder was a savage act of xenophobia.

Stretch jailed Mtshali for 20 years for murdering Ebamo and 10 years for robbing him, five years of which would run concurrently with the murder term.

In his guilty plea, Mtshali said an acquaintance told him he wanted to steal a foreigner's car.

Ebamo was duped into following them to a plantation on the pretext that he would be paid.

He was overpowered and tied up. A seatbelt was used to tie his neck to his own vehicle. He was dragged around and was dead when the driver stopped. - Sapa
