Free State - A Free State man has been jailed for eight years by the Ladybrand Regional Court for rape, police said on Wednesday.

Leraka Jan Tladi, 23, accosted a 42-year-old woman while she was collecting firewood on May 30, 2011, and asked her to kiss him, said Sergeant Martin Xuma.

“When the victim refused to kiss the accused, he took a knobkerrie and assaulted the victim on the legs, undressed her and raped her,” he said.

Women nearby heard her screams and rescued her. The police were called and Tladi was arrested. - Sapa
