Johannesburg - A man has handed himself over to police in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, after allegedly stabbing his wife to death in Soweto, Guateng police said.

The 39-year-old man was arrested on Friday after handing himself in, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The man, who accused his 32-year-old wife of cheating, stabbed and killed her in Emdeni, Soweto, on March 30 and then fled to Mpumalanga.

Community members in Mpumalanga, who became aware of the man's crime through the media, put pressure on him to hand himself over, Makhubela said.

“Yesterday [Friday] he went to the Piet Retief police station and confessed to the crime,” Makhubela said.

He was taken to Jabulani police station in Soweto and would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
