Johannesburg - A man who allegedly stabbed another man to death at Jacobs Hostel, in Durban, has handed himself over to police, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday.

The man, who had allegedly killed 35-year-old Khulekani Mvubu, handed himself over to police on Thursday, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

“Since the murder, police have been in contact with the suspect and he was encouraged to hand himself over... the suspect eventually handed himself over to detectives at Brighton Beach (police).”

The man allegedly approached Mvubu and confronted him over allegations made by the man's ex-girlfriend.

“The suspect then stabbed Mvubu in the presence of a witness before fleeing,” said Naicker.

Mvubu later died due to the wounds he had sustained, with the stabbing taking place last Sunday.

“The murder resulted in a lot of tension at the hostel as residents blamed the suspect's ex-girlfriend for the murder,” said Naicker.

The man, 29, was expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. - Sapa
