Johannesburg - A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a woman at a stokvel meeting in Soweto, police said.
“At 1am, a woman arrived at Jabulani police station to open a case of rape.
“She alleged that she was at a stokvel meeting with other members and after the meeting was over, other members left her house in Zola 2 but two men remained.
“The two men forcefully took her into a room and then raped her. It appears that the men were part of the stokvel,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
Police found one of the men at his friend's house in Zola at 5am, and he was arrested and charged with rape.
He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Police were still searching for the other man. - Sapa
