Kimberley - The body of a 17-year-old teenager was found hidden under a tree in the bushes with her head severed from her body.

According to the police, a 21-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing Helen Abigail Kuhn in Dingleton.

“The incident took place on Thursday morning. The victim was waiting for a taxi to Kathu, but the driver of a maroon BMW pretended to be a good Samaritan and offered her a lift,” Northern Cape police spokesman, Lieutenant Obakeng Tawana, said.

“However, instead of driving to Kathu, he drove into bushes outside Dingleton near Burk Mine. The girl immediately called her father to tell him about the driver of the BMW.

“Her father then contacted the police after receiving the call from his daughter.”

He said that the police responded to the call, and went in search of the driver of the vehicle and the young girl.

“When police searched the area, they spotted a 21-year-old man coming out of the bushes. He told them that he was the owner of the maroon BMW.

“The police found bloodstains inside the boot of the car and the body of the deceased was found hidden under a tree with the head severed from the body,” Tawana said.

“At this point, investigations show that the victim’s body could have been squashed into the boot of the vehicle, before it was dumped under the tree.”

Tawana said that when questioned by the police, the suspect told them that he was the victim of hijacking.

“Preliminary investigations show that the suspect attempted to shift the police’s investigation away from him, by telling them that he was hijacked by three armed men.

“However, the clothes he was wearing were covered in blood, and his lips also had some blood on them. He was then taken back to the crime scene, where police found the maroon BMW laying upside down,” Tawana stated.

He said that the victim’s cellphone was found in the suspect’s possession together with a knife that was allegedly used in committing the murder.

Tawana said that the suspect was due to appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, robbery and kidnapping.
