Johannesburg -

A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife with a hammer in Swaneville, near Krugersdorp, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The incident happened during an argument on Thursday, said Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya.

“She wanted to go somewhere to register for employment when the suspect accused her of actually going to her other boyfriend,” he said.

“The suspect then attacked the complainant and assaulted her with a hammer to the head and body.”

The woman ran into the bedroom and he followed her and continued to assault her, said Sibiya.

She sustained open wounds to the head and was later rushed to hospital.

A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened.

The 43-year-old man was arrested and detained at Kagiso police station. He is due to appear in court soon. - Sapa
