A man allegedly hacked his aunt to death with an axe in Mqatsheni, Himeville, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Beslina Duma, 64, was found in her house with head injuries, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Police received a report about a man running from Duma's house with an axe on Wednesday.

“Witnesses saw the suspect entering (her) house with an axe in his hand. A short while later they heard the screams of a woman coming from Beslina's house and (they saw) the suspect fleeing the house on foot, still carrying an axe.”

The man had apparently accused Duma of being responsible for his father's death. He would appear in the Himeville Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
