Bloemfontein - A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with culpable homicide after three people were killed in an accident in Ventersburg, north of Bloemfontein, Free State police said on Tuesday.

The man was taken into custody on Monday after he was released from hospital, said Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana.

Earlier on Monday, police were called to an accident scene where a truck had veered off the road and caught fire.

Khosana said two men in the truck managed to escape unscathed and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“It was discovered during the investigation on the scene that there was a squashed motor vehicle underneath the burnt truck.”

Three bodies, including a child, were found burned beyond recognition.

“There was no other clues found on the scene that could help with the identity of the deceased persons.”

Khosana said the driver of the truck could not give a clear explanation of what happened.

He would appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
