Knysna -

A man appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court for murder after the body of his girlfriend was found in their house in Nekkies, Knysna, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

Captain Bernadine Steyn said Stanley Jaars, 30, was expected back in court on September 12 for his formal bail application.

He faces a charge of murder.

“The man and his 20-year-old girlfriend, Wioneda Stroebel, had an argument on Sunday evening during which he allegedly hit her with a hammer on her head.

“The couple went to sleep shortly after the incident and when the man tried to wake her up on Monday around 3am, she was already dead.”

The man contacted Stroebel's parents and told them what happened. They called police, who arrested the man soon afterwards at the scene. - Sapa
