Man held for granddaughter’s rape

Nqamakwe, Eastern Cape - A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his ten-year-old granddaughter in Nqamakwe, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the man allegedly raped his grandchild on Friday.

“It is alleged that the suspect called the victim under the pretext that he was sending her to his room to fetch something. He then followed her and closed the door. He allegedly raped her inside his room.”

It was not clear if other family members were around the house when the crime took place.

The man was expected to appear in the Nqamakwe Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
