A man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Durban, police said on Saturday.

Police noticed a bakkie driving recklessly in the city CBD on Friday, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

After a high speed chase, police stopped and searched the vehicle and its occupants. Two unlicensed guns were found hidden under the vehicle seats, said Naicker.

“Police (found) that the firearms belonged to the passenger. He was placed under arrest. Another five firearms, magazines and ammunition for several weapons were found in his home in Durban Marine Parade,” said Naicker.

A ballistic tests were being conducted on the weapons to establish if they were linked to any crimes.

The man will appear in Durban Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
