Johannesburg - A man has been arrested in connection with the spate of mall robberies in Gauteng, police said on Thursday.

“We have information that could possibly link the suspect to up to 17 armed robberies in and around the province,” provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba said.

“Some of the cases that the suspect is involved in are cellphone shop robberies in Benoni, Witbank, Vereeniging, Linden, Sandton, Midrand, Lyttelton and Honeydew.”

The man, in his 30s, was arrested in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Thursday, apparently while on his way to Zimbabwe.

The man was expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court, in Johannesburg, soon. - Sapa
