Johannesburg - A 29-year-old man was arrested in Diepsloot, north west of Johannesburg, in connection with the murder of a woman, police said on Thursday.

Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said the 24-year-old woman was killed in her backyard shack in Diepsloot extension 7 on Wednesday night.

“The landlord was alerted by the victim screaming for help. The suspect fled the scene, but was caught and assaulted by a mob,” Mavimbela said.

“The woman collapsed outside her shack and was certified dead on the scene. She sustained stab wounds on her upper and lower body.”

The man and woman were romantically involved and were both foreign nationals, Mavimbela said.

The man was being treated for head and body injuries in hospital, under police guard. - Sapa
