A man has been arrested for the rape and murder of a woman at the Madala hostel in Kagiso, on the West Rand, police said on Monday.
Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said the 29-year-old man was arrested on Friday for the crime, committed at the hostel on February 5.
“Police investigations have positively linked him to the crime and the warrant of arrest was issued. He was arrested and detained at the Kagiso police station on Friday.”
In February, the police received an anonymous call and arrived at the hostel to find the half-naked body of a woman in a hostel room. She had been strangled and raped.
“The suspect was allegedly the last person to be seen with the deceased.”
The two apparently spent the night drinking with friends at the hostel.
The man would appear soon in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court. - Sapa
